Kateri
For the last two years, I taught Chemistry and Environmental Science in an urban high school. I found joy in the hard work that created tangible outcomes for my students. My work in school expanded into the local community, and I got to know many wonderful people and organizations in Milwaukee. While working in education I reaffirmed that my passion is housing equity. In order to facilitate a career change, I will be researching and writing on housing and urban planning. Hopefully the cities around the world will provide a classroom I can learn from! Overall, I am an outgoing and curious person who is excited to work alongside and learn from new communities.Andrew
I always wanted to be a lawyer, but kept putting it off for a variety of reasons. Now I'm finally applying to law schools, and what better way to defray the stress of waiting for rejection than by traveling around the world! Through my mini-career I acquired some eclectic knowledge (process improvement, mental health policy, how to pour a mean beer), but the common thread in my work is having conversations about tricky problems and making them solvable. I want to meet a lot of new people, learn about new cultures by experiencing them, and figure out what people care about around the world. If everything goes well, I will have a lot of food for thought while starting a career in public service.About the Blog
Both Kateri and Andrew want to put down some roots in the next place we live, but have a little wanderlust to spare. To that end, we'll get the travel bug out of our system and record our journey in this blog. We won't cover just the parks, but that's probably where we'll start in each new city. We are also enrolling in a program called Workaway which pairs us with hosts in cities around the world. By helping with our host's projects, we hope to understand a little more about where we're living than we'd get by just wandering from park to park.
